Temperament & Behavior

Considered one of the most intelligent dog breeds, the Border Collie is alert, responsive, and eager to please. They are driven to work and require a job to do—whether herding, agility, or advanced obedience. They form strong bonds with their families but can be reserved with strangers.

Our Breeding Philosophy

At Wild Pines Ranch we take great pride in hand-raising our dogs to be a wonderful, fun member of your family. Our breeding program centers on more than just producing a beautiful pet. We breed for smart, well-adjusted companions whose temperament and personality perfectly meld with your lifestyle. Our dogs come from working stock, and they love a job as much as they love pleasing their owners.  In the seven to eight weeks between birth and going to their new homes, our pups are handled daily. Beginning on day 3, we employ early neurological stimulation (ENS) giving the puppies every advantage to become the perfect dog for your family. By 4 weeks, puppies are weaned and have begun eating softened food. They are given plenty of time outside to play and we begin light crate training at night to make the transition to their new home easier. We use verbal commands (come, good dog) so they get used to responding to a human voice. Because we live on a ranch occupied by a couple of generations, the pups are held by and played with by our grandkids from day 1.  By seven weeks, our pups are ready to meet their new owners and bond with their new family.

Meet The Parents

Oakley

Our proud Momma! Not only does she deliver healthy pups, she loves to spend time playing and teaching them Border Collie things once they are weaned. Oakley has a medium rough coat and is a classically marked black and white Border Collie. She is a natural on cattle. She is on the smaller side, but fearless and determined when she works cows. Oakley loves to run, but has a great “off” switch when indoors.

Copen

Copen is Dad! He is a striking Blue Merle with two different colored eyes (Heterochromia) and has a long rough coat. Copen is not a paws-off dad—he loves engaging with the puppies once they are weaned and will even babysit on occasion. He also has an excellent “off” switch and is calm, cool, and collected. He works cattle as well.

Is a Border Collie
Right for You?

Border Collies thrive in homes with active owners who can provide them with the mental challenges and physical exercise they crave.

They are best suited for experienced dog owners with a yard and a commitment to ongoing training.
